Dear GREN,
If you are part of a faith community, or know other environmentalists who are part of a faith community, please consider taking part in the Walk to Worship portion of the Region of Waterloo's Commuter Challenge!
** please forward this email to others!! **
Happy spring!
I'm writing to suggest a fun, environmental event that I hope your faith community will consider taking part in, called the Commuter Challenge.
Coordinated by the Region of Waterloo, the Commuter Challenge challenges people to find another way to get to work during the week of June 6 to 11 by walking, cycling, carpooling or taking public transportation.
This year the Region of Waterloo and Greening Sacred Spaces are challenging faith communities to WALK TO WORSHIP!!
The Walk to Worship challenge can be held on any day of your faith community's choice, from May 1 to June 11.
I've attached a poster to this email about this project.
Please register your faith community by June 1.
Why register to hold a Walk to Worship event?
-promote sustainable transportation
-have fun together
-win prizes!
-you can participate in great Commuter Challenge activities during the Commuter Challenge week (June 5-11), such as 2-for-1 transit Tuesday, Bike to Work Breakfast and more!
Here are the steps:
1) choose a date for your Walk to Worship event
2) email me jsnyder at faith-commongood.net to receive a registration package (with a tally sheet)
3) decide if you are going to have a fun way to encourage people to participate (such as offering coffee or tea the morning of your Walk to Worship event)
4) submit your tally sheet to the Region of Waterloo by June 15, 2011
I will be issuing a news release in May, so if your faith community is going to participate, please let me know so that I can include your faith community in the news release!
p.s. you can also register your company or organization to participate in the week-long Commuter Challenge from June 5-11! More information at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/commuterchallenge.
Kind regards,
Jane
