Hi folks
In the attachment is a 6 page comment that I submitted to the MNR and the
Highland Companies regarding the quarry in Melancthon. With supporting documents
my submission is 45 pages long but I'll spare you the details unless requested.
In a nutshell, you can't assess the risks using outdated bore hole data (taken
from 1945!) or without seasonal variants represented. Bore holes don't work in
Outwash moraine system unless Ground Penetration Radar is also used. As long as
they are relying on only Modflow to assess risks, based on their flawed models
without regard to actual geology, sedimentology or current data, their
projections have no reasonable scientific basis!
In the attachment is the map to show the proximity of this Quarry to the Grand
River Watershed. Keep in mind, surface water features are what governs the
current delineation of watersheds mappings don't have the full regard for the
connectivity of aquifers etc.
