Subject: RE: Upcoming Waterloo Fluoridation Forums/Debates
Hello Mr. Anderson, and Waterloo Council;
Your response is clear and reaffirms what Waterloo Citizens can expect from
our City and our current Council. Apparently, Council's promise to hold
these public information forums can only happen if fluoridation proponents
'say so' by choosing to participate and then showing up. No public
information forums about fluoridation will take place because no proponents
of fluoridation will come out. As such, no fixed event dates will be
adhered to under these circumstances. For the City to suggest this to be a
neutral stance is ridiculous and naive. Also, it is less than helpful.
What is Waterloo's Mayor doing to resolve this situation?
Under the present situation, perhaps the City would be willing release the
Hauser Haus Room in the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex on the
September 16 and October 7 dates and times, for WaterlooWatch and Wondeful
Waterloo to hold two fluoridation forums. Seeing as these dates and times
are already anticipated by the public and the invited participants, and
since all sides to the fluoridation issue have already been invited and are
still welcomed to attend and participate, this seems a very fair and
reasonable alternative. It is already neutral to have invited all sides to
participate, it remains neutral to allow all potential participants to then
choose their course of action in relation to these remaining two public
forums. If the City finds it necessary to rent the facilities out for this
purpose, so be it. From there, all participating sides to the question can
pay their fair share, as duly registered campaigners to the ballot question.
I am one such registered campaigner.
This should put to rest whatever dilemma the City is experiencing here.

Hello Mr Fleming,
The information contained within the 'Council Briefing Note' is correct. The
new organizer 'Wonderful Waterloo' is attempting to arrange balanced
communication opportunities. The city will promote these events when the
organizer is ready. I think you can agree that Wonderful Waterloo is working
hard at trying to create these opportunities but the originally planned
dates (especially sept 16) may be difficult to achieve.
In closing nothing precludes proponents for either side of the 'Ballot
Question' from providing their own communication venues. The city has always
encouraged this. In fact during past "Ballot Questions" about fluoride this
was the method of communication used by the representative sides.
Thanks
Tim

Subject: Upcoming Waterloo Fluoridation Forums/Debates
Dear all,
Here is the latest news as taken from this September 8th, Waterloo Council
Briefing (please see attached).
''At present, we are hoping to have the fluoride forums on the following
dates:
Thursday, September 16 - 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 7 - 7:00 p.m.
Space has been allocated at the Hauser Haus, Waterloo Memorial Recreation
Complex for these dates and times. If both the pro and con sides of the
panel can't be orchestrated for these two events, then these forums can't
happen.''
Notably, the September 16 and October 7 dates were agreed upon months ago.
Since that time, these planned City venues have been off, then on, now off
again.
As opponents of fluoridation we readily agreed to participate throughout,
yet twice now we have been forced to cancel international experts, their
transport and accommodation.
Waterloo Council has voted for three public forums, although, City Hall
chooses to ignore this fact because fluoridation promoters refuse to further
participate in proving their long-held beliefs about water fluoridation. I
ask that the City remain truly neutral, and not stand in the way of
providing citizens this opportunity to learn from, and ask questions of,
whomever is represented at the public forums. If an all-candidates debate
is set, the debate is not cancelled if one side chooses not to show up.
Our City's possible intention to shut down these forums supports a biased
strategy; allowing debate to be shut down by the pro side of the issue,
therefore silencing all dissenting voices. This is a classic status quo
strategy being orchestrated and played. Many citizens want
hydrofluorosilicic acid out of our water, and stand ready to listen and be
heard. Where are the proponents to defend their claims? Where is the
scientific evidence ever to be found in such avoidant bvehaviour?
Please stop blocking real opportunity for citizens to learn and gather
information about this vital public health issue, being voted on during the
October ballot. Our Council agreed to a total of three public forums. To
date we have had one. Truly remaining neutral would be inviting all sides
to participate, then standing back and allowing these participants to choose
their course of action in relation to these public forums. Health Canada,
the Canadian Dental Association, the Canadian Dental Hygienist Association,
the Canadian Dental Assistants' Association, the Ontario Dental Association,
the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Waterloo-Wellington
Dental Society, and Region of Waterloo Public Health have all chosen not to
participate, and they do not need Waterloo City Hall to now run defence for
them.
I suppose the only ones left to try and invite would be the Ontario Medical
Officer of Health and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
Respectfully yours,
Robert J. Fleming (Executive Director, WaterlooWatch)
