It means just that, Lori....(IF) .65% voted yes to the talks in Kitchener(that seems a higher percentage than I woud have anticipated)...However with Waterloo voting a resounding NO (bless them)....Kitchener has no one to talk to so that fact is going to immediately save 2-3 million $$$$ minimum of our tax dollars in time and salaries for staff and research and paper and printing and ink and photocopying and lunches and snacks and 'the usual consultants' etc etc etc probably even 5 million $$$ over the 4 year time frame.
I am happy it's been put to bed for now.... but it will raise it's ugly head some time again in the future. Definitely we have to talk of enjoining/merging emergency services (Fire fighters for sure) and some other services
Waterloo Region has marketed itself well in the past and will continue to do so. We also have the Greater Chamber of Commerce merged over the last 15+ years (I used to work with and for them back 20 yrs+ yrs ago. ) They also Market us well .The mutual voice of KW merged won't make much more of an impact which was the sales pitch and also would not save $$$$$ it would cost a lot more in the long run. I firmly believe voters decided correctly where we are and should be "at this point in time" for our cities and Region. Ginny.

Merger is no by two to 1 in Waterloo. That's good enough for winner Halloran, who says merger talks are officially over.

          Merger numbers in Waterloo
          No votes 17,478
          Yes votes: 9264

As for fluoride, it was blood curling close race. Second to last poll numbers showed the yes side with a slight lead but the final poll tally sealed the deal to remove fluoride.
          No votes:13,363
          Yes votes:13,261
