Hi Kevin etal,
Just to set the record straight on this, Kitchener candidates were not
included. See below:
Dear Ms Koswan,
Thank you for your inquiry about Vote Smart 2010.
Although we are surveying candidates from the City of Waterloo and North
Dumfries, Kitchener is not included.
I believe that the areas were chosen based on issues related to the
Greenbelt (including expansion) and, in most cases, where a local member
group in our Alliance is active.
Sincerely,
Maryam Nassar

Subject: [All] Local Candidates Strongly Support Greenbelt Expansion
Hi everyone,
In an extension of the Vote Smart work that Environmental Defence and the
Ontario Greenbelt Alliance have been doing surveys were sent out to over
1,400 candidates key parts of the province over the past few weeks in one of
the largest municipal election initiatives ever conducted. 22 Candidates in
Waterloo Region responded with 100% of our responding candidates indicating
they support growing or strengthening the Greenbelt in our community! This
is an amazing number and is above support levels from eight other Regions.
More than 95% of Waterloo Region and local municipal candidates also said
they would support policies for local food and purchasing locally-grown food
in their municipal facilities.
Unfortunately, candidate response rates for Waterloo were lower than other
areas though it is great to see the strong environmental support of those
that responded in our area.
I've attached the press release below that has just gone out to area media.
You can also learn more about specific candidates, wards, and communities at
the Vote Smart website - www.votesmart2010.ca
Enjoy!
Kevin Thomason.
