Hi everyone
The OMB process on the Mount Nemo quarry expansion is now underway. Below is the schedule of discussions if anyone is intererested in attending.
In terms of ecology, the main topic will be focused on the need to protect Jefferson Salamanders.

To all PERL Members and Supporters:
After a year in the pre-hearing stage, the actual Joint Board (OMB/Environmental Tribunal) hearings on the Nelson Aggregate quarry expansion application finally started on November 17. It is anticipated that the hearings will last until next spring or summer. They are being held in Oakville at the Quality Suites (hotel) at 754 Bronte - just below the QEW on the west side of the road - Monday thru Thursday, with days off for holidays, etc. - from 10.00 am until approximately 4.30 pm in the Northampton Suite.
We know that Board members are positively influenced when they see members of the community attending the hearings. For this reason we encourage anyone who can to attend occasionally - at least for a part of a day. This is on an observer-only basis for everyone except those who have pre-registered as participants.
A preliminary schedule (see below) was prepared prior to the start of the hearings. It covers the first part where Nelson's experts present their case and are cross examined by the opposing parties (Halton Region, City of Burlington, Niagara Escarpment Commission, Conservation Halton and PERL). When this is finished, the opposing parties will make their presentations and be cross examined by Nelson.

If you are able to attend, and have a specfic subject of interest, we recommend you contact PERL to get confirmation of when this will be coming up. However, the hearings are already two days behind schedule and it is impossible to accurately determine specific dates more than a day or so in advance. For anyone without a specific area of interest, we believe that the cross examination days will be the most interesting!
We do hope any of you living in the area can spare some time to support PERL at the hearings. Please contact perl at perlofburlington.org with any questions about the hearings - schedule or otherwise.
