Two quick items

There has been a massive fish kill of Rainbow Smelt in Lake Erie. Investigations are currently underway. The news story was published May 27th and the details are here.

I also came across a report report titled, "Should Canada continue drilling for Oil and Gas under the Great Lakes?" There are many detailed graphs, info of spills in Erie etc.

Currently the US has banned drilling around the Great Lakes in order to protect these fresh water resources. The report provided above states the industry is on the decline anyways but it appears the numbers of spills is increasing. I suspect aging infrastructure may have something to do with that.

I'd like to propose that GREN create a formal letter for the Lake Erie Source Water Protection Committee calling for an end to drilling around Erie.
