Hello All -
I just signed the David Suzuki Foundation petition circulated by Lulu on
protecting our oceans, then wrote the following letter to Harper, Peter
MacKay, Jim Prentice, and Gail Shea.
Best -
Eleanor Grant

Dear Prime Minister and Ministers of Defence, Environment, and Fisheries &
Oceans:
Greater than the threat of foreign or terrorist incursions upon our shores,
is surely the threat of oil spills such as the tragic spill now occurring in
the Gulf of Mexico.
Please take the following measures as quickly as possible, to protect our
coastal communities and marine habitats from such a disaster:
1. RELIEF WELLS must be required BEFORE any future undersea drilling BEGINS.
2. Existing drilling operations must be required to install relief wells
within a short time frame, or close.
3. Canada should push in international bodies (including the G8 and G20 and
the UN) for these standards to be enacted in all countries.
As a nation with coastlines on three oceans, Canada should assume leadership
in protection of the world's oceans.
Please make a public announcement on what your government will do to stop
oil drilling at sea unless relief wells are present.
Sincerely,
Eleanor Grant
Waterloo, Ont.
