  Hi Everyone,
I want to try to give everyone as much notice as I received about this Public Information meeting that is to be held Thursday June 10. It is regarding the extension of Strasburg Road from it's present point at Huron Road south to Reidel Road. The extension of this road is within the southwest corner of the City of Kitchener where the Region wishes to hold the hard Country Line. To have this road go through means that it will go through an area that is water recharge, Regional wellheads, threatened species habitat, agricultural land and importantly 10 metres from a B&B business that is flourishing and is the main income source for a widow who has lived there about 20 years.
The City believes that because this has been on the "Community Plan" that it should be a done deal. I need to prove them wrong and fight them on this issue. The Region has planned in it's Transportation Master Plan to widen Fischer-Hallman towards the 401. This is a much wiser decision as it is already an existing roadbed and already well used.
The Strasburg Road extension would be a 4 lane road which is intended to carry the same type of traffic that Homer Watson presently carries yet it will end up at the same junction that Homer Watson and the 401 now comes to. Activa bought up some of this land just over 10 years ago and in that time has removed a pond which could have been a vernal pond, removed a vast amount of trees and been the proponent of the OMB hearing that I was a participant in and Neil Taylor was party to.
I hope this bit of background will enlighten many of you enough to be able to attend the public information meeting at Brigadoon School on Carnydale Road from 6-8pm.
If you have any questions please email me and I will try to clarify this issue for you. By the way the City has decided that this PIC will also cover the rehabilation of Strasburg Creek, Wards Pond and Brigadoon ponds to the tune of $1.8M! Development has led to the demise of these watercourses that are part of a PSW and they have no accountablity with regards to the rebilitation of these water courses. It will dramatically impact the wildlife for the 3 time in the last 15 years as well as result in the trenching of a brand new creekbed and the removal of over 50 years some of substanial size and age.
