Hi folks
Here's the info about the Grand River Watershed Water Forum which is one of the best venues for information and updates on the state of our watershed. Tickets cost approx. $100 each to attend but it's well worth it for anyone who wants to stay on top of watershed issues and conservation strategies. I'll probably be there, I've been going to these for years and I'll be sure to take notes on behalf of GREN. Details of this years events are included in this email for your reference.

The Grand River Watershed Water Forum will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year. We hope you will plan to attend this event which is being held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Grand River Conservation Authority in Cambridge, ON.
This year’s theme, Inspiring Grand Transformations: Our Preferred Future will allow us to collectively look forward as we focus on ensuring a healthy and resilient watershed for years to come.
We are very excited to have Ken Kirkby as a keynote speaker. Ken is a world-renowned artist and President of the Nile Creek Enhancement Society in Bowser, British Columbia.
Ken Kirkby's passion for melding both the cultural and natural worlds of Canada is truly inspiring! At 18, he arrived in Canada ready to explore the country and its people. He has created numerous works depicting the arctic and first nations cultures, including the world's largest oil-on-canvas portrait "Isumataq" which introduced many of us to the inukshuk (stone cairn) built by the Inuit. Ken’s valuable contributions to the arctic government led to being awarded the 125th Anniversary Confederation of Canada medal. From his home on Vancouver Island, where he continues to paint; Ken has dedicated countless hours to the restoration of nearby creeks. He and other volunteers of the Nile Creek Enhancement Society successfully brought pink salmon back to a stream that had been essentially devoid of fish. In so doing, the Society was awarded the first ever Environmental Restoration & Rehabilitation Gold Award in 2007 by Canadian Geographic and the Canadian
Government for its accomplishments.
Gord Miller, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will once again provide his unique observations in summarizing the day’s discussions. He will also look back at the past ten years of water forums encapsulating the discussion, actions and changes that have transpired as we continue towards “our preferred future:” in water management.
This year’s panel discussions have been adapted to incorporate an exchange of ideas between the participants, as well as an opportunity for significant interaction from the audience. The morning panel will focus on Our Grand Future, discussing how we are managing and conserving our water resources; while the afternoon panel, Our Grand Community, will highlight the importance and appreciation of our watersheds. All panelists will be looking toward Our Preferred Future.
Online registration is available at www.grandriver.ca/waterforum. Also online you will find information on exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities. Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact Sonia Morgan, Water Forum Co-ordinator.
We wish everyone a safe and GRAND summer!
