Just a point of clairity.
The tricky part of the biofuel issue, like the nuclear industry, is that folks tend to overlook the energy needed to produce the first steps of energy production which is the case of crop fuels, is very costy to water tables, carbon footprint and pesticide use. I'm not a fan of atrazine so more corn for gas is not good in my view, but the fact that they are making the effort to investigate WASTE as fuel is the part that I'm rather happy with.
In knowing the names of these specific programs, it enables us to lobby more effectively for the reallocation of existing funding towards reclaimation of energy from waste. The more we can established a closed looped energy system with the least emissions the better.
