Attention:
Ms. Barbara Steiner
Senior Environmental Planner
City of Kitchener
Dear Ms. Steiner,
I have seen the Notice of the Public Information Meeting scheduled for
January 20th, 2010. I believe that you were made aware when I attended a
meeting with Mr. Sleeth in your presence that I belonged to a winter
monitoring team for the American Bald Eagles that may be found in the Region
and in other parts of the Grand River watershed.
The MNR has continually updated the mapping for this species. You are
advised that for the past 3 years, there has been a considerable more
presence of this species between the 401 and the Mannheim Weir at Hidden
Valley.
I encourage you to contact Mr. Art Timmerman of the Guelph MNR office to see
the revised maps.
My own observations during the monitoring of birds in general during the
Kitchener Christmas Bird Counts in this area, that there is no tolerance of
human activity within 800 metres. This becomes very significant to the
proposal for new trails and a footbridge in the very area where this species
has been recorded.
I look forward to a response from you. Well in advance of that public
meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Neil E. Taylor
