Well, Lulu , that was a very strong letter with some very noted facts.  Glad it was published.  Harper is Harping for all the things he wants for himself. One of his worst betrayals (in my opinion) is his, once again , broken promise??stated intention?? of pulling out of Afghanistan  in 2011.  The troopers and Our country will be paying the price long after this ,some day, ends.   
We went over there on a "peace" mission  and because of the Taliban their deathly bombs and more we had to train our troopers in "Full Combat" and how to defend themselves and the innocent people.
There are not only dead soldiers returning   but many more Physically and Mentally damaged ones who will need continuing care and may never find a semblance of normality in life again ; and their families are also suffering with them and trying to adjust to these horrific changes in their relationships and abilities. 
The little benefit Canada's involvement has obtained for this constantly war torn country is definitely not worth the price our troopers and Canadians in general are paying. (I am so glad our grandson was able to exit the army and not have to go back to Afghanistan a second time)  as it's the repeated deployments which cause the most damage   with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  I believe that most of them suffer this at varying degrees...and mental afflictions can be such a drain on the health care system as well as on the victim. 

Now Harper,for whom I have no respect, has committed us to stay there   but only as a "Peace Keeper."   What in the name of Heaven is he thinking of.???  You think the Taliban will care wether they are there in combat and self defence    or    in peace keeping only ?????  Our troops will just make a better bunch of targets if they can't fight back.They are still an unwanted presence in a  war mongering country.   It took Russia 10 years to realise that they might as well quit  the country ( I spoke to one of our local fire fighters and his Dad was part of the army in those days with Russia and accomplished very little positive for them  and glad to 'go home')
Enough of my ranting...Harper won't listen to the best in Canada   why would he listen to such as me.    Ginny

        Also, I sent info regarding the Federal ECO's meeting to Canadian and International papers including the Guardian, the Huffington Post, the New York times as well as several Canadian Environmental law agencies and Maude Barlow.
