Grand River Conservation Authority
GRCA to mark 75th anniversary
with head office open house on Oct. 3
The GRCA is marking its 75th anniversary year with a public open house at
its head office in Cambridge on Saturday Oct. 3.
The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 400 Clyde Road, Cambridge.
Visitors will be able to learn about the activities and programs of the GRCA
as well as several community organizations that work with the GRCA.
A highlight of the day will be a presentation by photographers from the
Waterloo Region Record who will show highlights from their project "A Year
on The Grand." Mat McCarthy and David Bebee have been photographing the
river throughout the year and will show their work and discuss the project
during a presentation at 1:30 p.m.
Among the activities that will take place throughout the open house are:
* Tours of the flood control room and the Shade's Mills Dam
* Nature programs, tours and animal shows
* Tours & displays by the Ancient Mariners Canoe Club
* Fly-fishing and stewardship displays by the Waterloo Stewardship
Network
* Wetland displays by Ducks Unlimited
* Rural Water Quality Program displays and activities
* Groundwater Festival displays and activities for children
* Green Roof presentation by Nedlaw Living Roofs
The open house will be followed by the presentation of the 2009 Watershed
Awards to individuals and organizations that have undertaken work to improve
the Grand River watershed.
