There is still a certificate of approval (C of A) that was issued by the Ministry of the Environment in 1998,  which allows a landfill to be installed at Site 41. That is where the risk is. As long as the permit is active, the lands could in theory allow for a future landfill.  

Garfield Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North, is specifically to revoke the MOE's C of A through a private member’s bill, Bill 32. 
 
Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller has publicly stated that Site 41 would never be chosen or approved as a waste dump today, given what we now know about the importance of source water protection – a lesson painfully brought home by the tragedy at Walkerton.

Lulu...will the bill call for a rezoning to be changed and added to the Official Plan  just in case some future councils get cotton fuzz in their brains such as this one did. ??  IF  it is rezoned and added to the Official Plan then in case there is another attempt  the public has the right to take them to the OMB    or will Bill 32 remain 'only' a 'political decision'? which really has no teeth and is probably not binding on future councils.  I hope the folks can fight to get it changed in their  O.P.  Ginny 
You know more about bills than I do, but  this is the time to wear a belt  and  suspenders!!

This Thursday, November 19, MPP Garfield Dunlop’s Bill 32 regarding Site 41 will be going up at Queens Park. The bill will quash the MOE's permit for a dump and secure that no future councils will be able to build a dump at this location above one of the world's most pristine aquifers. 

A quick email to your MPP's in support of the bill will help.
