Just a little FYI.

I spoke with a retired bylaw officer from the townships who shared some
horror stories about private well owners in the townships going on city
water who did not decommission their wells properly - if at all. Some were
even dumping manure into old wells. I don't believe there is any mandatory
requirements to properly decommission abandoned private wells (to the best
of my knowledge).

Hello Susan,

Thank you for your interest in the RBC Blue Water Grant that GRCA received.
The funding will be used to support a number of workshops using the rural
stewardship guide. There will also be funding made available to provide
landowners with assistance to implement projects that they identify during
the workshops. Well decommissioning could be included in the funding
provided. Currently landowners in Wellington County and the Upper Grand
have access to 100% funding to decommission abandoned wells. As Dave has
passed on to you there are also locations throughout the watershed where the
Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program will fund well decommissioning.
Farmers can access the Environmental Farm Plan funding too. We will be
looking at funding gaps and needs and will try to fill in areas where
funding is currently not available.

In the coming months we will be advertising the workshops and the assistance
available to landowners.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Hi Dave, Greg,

Will any money be allocated in the way of grants for landowners to properly
close or cap private, abandoned wells?

Thanks,

Susan Koswan
